Frequently Asked Questions

When is the YMCA busy?
The Y is busiest Monday to Friday from 9:00am-11:00am and 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

What do I wear to workout in?
The YMCA is a family organization. We ask that our members wear family appropriate clothing while in the facility. Please do not wear shirts bearing inappropriate designs or offensive comments. Participants are also asked to wear a shirt and shoes at all times when inside the building.

Comfort and safety is the key to choosing your clothing. As a minimum, the YMCA requires that you wear a t-shirt and tights, shorts or sweat pants and running shoes.

Can I bring a friend?
Members are encouraged to introduce others to their YMCA. Guest passes are available for individuals sixteen years of age and older. The guest will be have the same membership privileges as their host member. Each guest is entitled to one complimentary pass. Day passes may also be purchased for a fee.

Is there a Building Fee when I join, and what is it used for?
Yes, a one time, non-refundable Building Fee is required of all adult members upon joining. This fee is used for the maintenance of high quality YMCA facilities through capital improvements, renovations and refurbishment.

Can I use my membership at other YMCAs?
Your YMCA membership is recognized around the world. YMCA’s are independent associations, therefore each YMCA will have different access policies. If you are planning to use a YMCA outside of the YMCA of Niagara Association, check with the local YMCA you will be visiting to find out about their access policies.

Within the Niagara Region:

  • Young Adults and adults will have unlimited "general membership" access at Niagara Falls, Niagara Centre and St. Catharines.
  • Child members will have course privileges in their home YMCA branch and unlimited public swim / family swim access at all other branches.
  • Membership Plus members will be entitled to 2 visits per month at another YMCA branch and entitled to unlimited access to the general changeroom.
  • Unlimited Membership Plus access is granted to those who pay the "regional fee" - which is equivalent to the highest Membership Plus fee in the region.

The YMCA of Niagara is a charity, open to all, providing leadership and opportunities for people and their community to grow in spirit, mind and body.
